Elder Care – Protect the Vulnerable

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed and exacerbated the many problems with elder care in Canada, especially in Ontario and Quebec where COVID-19 hit hardest. Our first Speakers Series of the 2020-21 year included three presentations that addressed different aspects of Elder Care in Ontario, followed by a panel discussion.

Karen Henderson spoke about the issues in long term care (LTC). Karen is the founder and CEO of the Long Term Care Planning Network, a national resource centre for aging and long term care education and planning. Click here to see Karen’s presentation.

Michèle Harding spoke about issues in community care and home care. Michèle is the Chair of the Board of Directors for Care Watch Ontario. Click here to see Michèle’s presentation.

Dan Levitt spoke about legislative issues in elder care, specifically pertaining to ageism. Dan is an elder care leader, writer, and gerontologist, specializing in helping others to create better lives for seniors, and is also the Executive Director of Tabor Village, a community of more than 300 seniors.  Click here to see Dan’s presentation.

As well, the Standing Committee Chairs for Education, Legislation and the Status of Women & Human Rights have written reports about the October 3rd presentations, focusing on their Committee’s perspective.  Click on the links below to view.
