April 21, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join us on Wednesday April 21st 2021 at 6:30pm-our guest speaker is Deb Davidson, the topic:

Tattoos Talk:
How we commemorate with tattoos

Tattooing is, at its foundation, a social act conveying meaning through visual symbols. And yet, beyond the visual, tattoos also open dialogue, moving what may be thought of as private and personal embodied memories into a public sphere. After beginning with a brief history and prevalence of tattooing, Deb will move to a description of The Tattoo Project, her empirical research on commemorative tattoos. Her focus will be on memorial tattoos and grief, particularly resonant during this pandemic. During the discussion period, in addition to questions and comments, Deb hopes you will share your tattoo stories.

Deb Davidson, PhD, is a professor at York University and a feminist sociologist with research and publications in the areas of health and well-being, loss and bereavement, disability, family, and pedagogy. Her current research is on tattooing to memorialize and commemorate. If she had a tagline it would be ‘speak their names’.  For more information or to register e-mail  info@cfuworangeville.com.
