2019 Ontario East Fall Gathering

2019 Ontario East Fall Gathering

CFUW Belleville and District, as part of its Club’s 80th anniversary celebrations, volunteered to host the 2019 Ontario East Fall Gathering.  A committee of nine began brainstorming in October of 2018 on how the day would look and came up with a `Public-Private Partnership` where part of the day would be open to the public and the rest of the day for CFUW clubs.

The theme was ‘Navigating our Digital World’ with keynote speaker Nora Young, host of CBC Radio’s Spark program.  Nora spoke on the world of Big Data and how each of us is affected, mostly without knowing! After a Q&A session, the public attendees departed while the CFUW club members stayed on for lunch and afternoon sessions.

Sandra Thomson, President of Ontario Council, spoke about critical thinking which tied in perfectly with the morning’s presentation.

Table-talk discussion focused on our clubs’ challenges and opportunities in a digital world.

The last speaker of the day was Belleville businessman and city councillor, Ryan Williams.  His energetic presentation on the importance of innovation, especially in a smaller community, generated excellent questions from the audience.

All in all, it was an excellent day.  CFUW Belleville and District thanks all those who attended and we look forward to YOUR Fall Gathering in 2020!
