Canada’s Food (In)security – Why We Are All at Risk
On March 23rd, CFUW Ontario Council’s Advocacy Committee sponsored a special virtual event entitled Canada’s Food (In)Security – Why We Are All at Risk. The session featured three experts on the topic who addressed the issues surrounding Canada’s food supply system and the things we all could do to help fix the problems. It was an extremely educational and thought-provoking presentation. None of us who attended will never think about our grocery shopping the same.
Food insecurity was discussed as a women’s issue. Women are actively involved in our food system. They are the primary purchasers of food and they are disproportionately affected by food insecurity. It is important that we, as women, understand the issues present in our current food system.
The presenters told us that historically, women are change makers and can do a great deal to solve the problems within our food system. They graciously provided us with these resources to assist us:
